Reflecting on the phenomenon of artistic reception forces us, before anything else, to the ascertainment that it is reciprocally dependent of the phenomena of production and of programming and that all of them integrate a complex multinodal network, where a multiplicity of agents ensure mediation tasks necessary to its functioning.

A pluriperspective analysis of the cultural phenomena will allow us to understand the reception as an integrated social practice, strongly conditioned by other action fields and by the material existence conditions of the individuals. While phenomenon generator of specific sociabilities, it matters thinking the cultural reception in a systemic manner and accompany the audience’s experience through all the capillarities extended between production, programming and reception of the artistic products.

In the context of O Público Vai ao Teatro, an audience engagement project developed by teatro meia volta e depois à esquerda quando eu disser, the Encounters on Reception Policies and Audience Engagement in the Context of Performative Arts were organized at the 29th and 30th of October 2018, at São Luiz Municipal Theatre, with the purpose of gathering different agents of the artistic sector, as well as of other disciplines, around the analysis of the relations between production, programming and reception in the scope of the performative arts, seeking to problematize the relations between these three poles and systematize engagement policies and strategies.
