The teatro meia volta e depois à esquerda quando eu disser (half turn and then left when I say theatre) is a cultural association with the mission of promoting activities in the scope of the performative arts, from the production of shows to the development of pedagogic and artistic mediation activities.

Between 2006 and 2016, teatro meia volta developed a regular activity as theatre company, constituting a body of work dedicated to the research of production collaborative methodologies and to the exploration of a socially and politically compromised aesthetic.

As of 2016, the teatro meia volta restructures its work mode, seeking to respond to the needs felt in the midst of the artistic production and among its collaborators. Abandoning the format of the theatre company, teatro meia volta starts functioning as a production structure. Some of the artists who regularly collaborated with the company now integrate the new production format as associated artists.

Presently, the associated artists of teatro meia volta are Alfredo Martins, Anabela Almeida, Cláudia Gaiolas, Luís Godinho and Sara Duarte.

These five artists’ work reiterates the common social and political commitment of the teatro meia volta’s path, asserting the need of recovering collective negotiation spaces which allow us to give answers to the complexity of the world we live in, dominated by a capitalist patriarchal society deregulated system, and, maybe, find ways of, paraphrasing Donna Haraway, live and die well together.

Beyond the production work of the associated artists, teatro meia volta develops a regular work in the scope of artistic mediation, rehearsing new formats intended to potentiate the relation of the audiences, existent and new, with the artistic production and programming. O Público Vai ao Teatro (The Audience Goes to the Theatre) is the audience engagement project which, since 2011, the structure has been developing in collaboration with diverse public cultural institutions.
