The Waves / 2022
In 2022, the teatro meia volta team adapted the novel “The Waves”, by Virginia Woolf, for the stage. This proposal continues a reflection on the passage of time and on the growth/aging processes, initiated in the show “Joyeux Anniversaire”, created in 2021, to commemorate the 15 years of the structure’s existence.
In “The Waves”, Virginia Woolf constructs a delicate score that moves between six interior monologues. The text follows the six narrators-characters from childhood to adulthood, exploring the processes of construction and mediation of individuality and the collective. This adaptation places the characters in an artificial environment – a chroma key studio -, testing the limits of its plasticity. In this apparent non-place, the elements of an audiovisual recording studio are constantly reconfigured to build the plastic and emotional landscapes that these six figures cross.
